Actor Varun Dhawan recently shared his excitement about his upcoming film “Bawaal,” directed by Nitesh Tiwari, where he plays a character on a transformative journey. In the film, Varun portrays Ajay Dixit, a popular high school history teacher known as Ajju bhaiya in his hometown. Collaborating with Nitesh was a long-held dream for Varun, and he praised the filmmaker’s humility for enhancing his performance.
Expressing his satisfaction with the role, Varun said, “I personally feel it is one of my best characters as there is an arc and realization. As actors, we don’t always get this opportunity to share a philosophy through our films. In today’s time, when nothing is organic, this film is very important. It is the closest to the truth of life at the moment.” Varun made these remarks during the film’s trailer launch, held at the iconic ocean liner and hotel Queen Elizabeth II.
“Bawaal” also features Janhvi Kapoor as Nisha, Ajay’s wife. The film revolves around their trip to the World War II trail in Europe, where a series of events test their marriage and force Ajay to confront his internal struggles. The film explores the theme of image-oriented lives in the age of social media.
“In today’s time, people are not fearless. Every human being has to fight his/her insecurity before they do anything. We all are running after an image and living a life with a filter. ‘Bawaal’ is exactly that. It is something which needs to be experienced… I’ve never been so confident about the reception to my film, but with ‘Bawaal’ I am,” Varun added.
“Bawaal” is set to premiere on Prime Video on July 21 and will be available in India and over 200 countries and territories. The film is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala’s Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment in collaboration with Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Nitesh’s Earthsky Pictures.
Sajid expressed his belief in the global appeal of “Bawaal,” which influenced the decision to release the film digitally. He stated, “‘Bawaal’ deserves to be watched and enjoyed by audiences all over the world. Partnering with Prime Video to premiere the film and now launching the trailer in Dubai is a testament to our ambition of reaching a global audience. We’re thrilled to be here in Dubai and can’t wait to see the world fall in love with ‘Bawaal.'”
Varun eagerly awaits the audience’s reaction to the film and expressed his anticipation for viewers from around the globe to watch and experience this unconventional and beautiful romantic tale. The event was attended by Janhvi Kapoor, Nitesh Tiwari, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Warda Nadiadwala (producer), and Manish Menghani (director of content licensing, Prime Video India).
